Post: Kwankwaso Backs NDC Southern Presidential Ticket

Abuja: Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has endorsed the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South. He described the decision as ‘a step toward national healing, fairness and national unity.’ Kwankwaso spoke on Saturday while addressing delegates at the party’s national convention in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Kwankwaso expressed his support for zoning the NDC presidential ticket to the South, emphasizing the importance of unity and solidarity in national leadership. He assured delegates that the party would uphold fairness, federal character, and equity in appointments and resource distribution. Kwankwaso urged the NDC to promote leadership free from ethnic and religious prejudice, setting a new standard capable of restoring Nigeria’s dignity.

Kwankwaso also encouraged Nigerians, especially the youth and students, to register and participate actively in the electoral process, highlighting the NDC’s appeal as a noble cause. He m
entioned the party’s success in attracting ‘quality members’ and generating strong interest among Nigerians and international observers. Kwankwaso warned that Nigeria was facing a defining political moment due to leadership failures, citing issues such as rising insecurity, economic hardship, and declining living standards.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s political history, Kwankwaso recalled alliances like the 1954 partnership between the Northern Elements Progressive Union and the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons, involving Aminu Kano and Nnamdi Azikiwe, as well as the Second Republic partnership of Shehu Shagari and Alex Ekwueme. He emphasized the need for leadership that could meet the challenges of a changing political landscape.
