Abuja: Former Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has postponed his planned donation of copies of his book to tertiary institutions in Kwara due to the recent killings of innocent residents in the state.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mohammed issued a statement via his media office, stating that the postponement of the event, originally scheduled for the following week, was out of respect for the victims of the killings. He noted that a new date for the donation of his book, ‘Headlines and Soundbites: Media Moments That Defined an Administration’, will be announced in due course.
Mohammed conveyed his condolences to the government and people of Kwara over the killings. Reports indicate that several residents of Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area were killed by terrorists. The former minister extended sympathies to the families of the victims, expressing hopes for fortitude and peace for those affected.
He praised the affected communities for their resilience against the intimidation of the terrorists, acknowledging their determination to resist the terror. Mohammed also commended President Bola Tinubu for his immediate response in deploying an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area to address the threat.
The former minister emphasized that this action demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting Nigerians across the country. He urged the people of Kwara to continue supporting state and federal efforts to stop the attacks and restore peace in their communities.
