Lagos: The Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN), has called on junior officers to prioritize teamwork and integrity as essential attributes in their professional conduct. This call was made during the opening session of a two-day Junior Officers’ Workshop organized by the state Ministry of Justice in Ikeja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the workshop, themed ‘From Potential to Performance: Empowering Junior Officers for Excellence in Service Delivery’, highlighted the importance of effective justice delivery as a collective responsibility. Mr. Pedro emphasized that the contributions of non-lawyer staff were crucial to the Ministry’s overall effectiveness, acknowledging the diverse roles within the ministry, including administration, finance, human resources, and public relations.
Mr. Pedro urged the officers to uphold integrity, emphasizing that public servants hold positions of trust and must manage government resources with honesty and accountability. He also stressed the importance of teamwork, noting that inefficiencies in one unit could impact an entire department and the delivery of services to the public.
The workshop featured sessions on various professional skills, including competence, productivity, communication, emotional intelligence, ethics, and integrity. It aimed to address issues related to health, well-being, and career growth within the Lagos State Public Service. Mr. Pedro encouraged participants to engage actively, apply the lessons learned, and aim for improved performance and service delivery.
Mr. Hameed Oyenuga, the Permanent Secretary and Solicitor-General of the Ministry, highlighted the significance of junior officers as the future workforce of the justice system. He urged them to transform their potential into performance, stressing the importance of professionalism, responsibility, and confidentiality in their roles.
Mrs. Aderinsola Olarewaju, the Permanent Secretary of the Citizens’ Mediation Bureau, likened the role of support staff to a chain, underscoring the impact of each individual’s performance on the entire system. She encouraged officers to strengthen their roles and contribute positively to the ministry’s success.
The workshop included interactive sessions, allowing participants to engage in discussions, ask questions, and seek mentorship opportunities for their professional development. The event emphasized the importance of personal and professional growth, aiming to equip junior officers with the necessary skills for excellence in service delivery.
