Post: Lagos: Blue Light Rail Expected to Enhance Productivity and Alleviate Traffic, says NAN MD

The Lagos Blue Light Rail operations are poised to significantly boost productivity and reduce traffic congestion in Lagos State, according to Mr. Ali Muhammad Ali, Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Muhammad shared his views after personally experiencing the rail service, boarding the train to various stations in Lagos on Sunday.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the state government and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu deserve commendation for their investment in first-class transportation infrastructure, which is expected to ease business operations in the state. He was particularly impressed with the organization and timeliness observed at each of the train stations along the 13-kilometer stretch from Marina to Mile 2, noting efficient passenger management and punctuality.

Muhammad highlighted the potential for the Blue Light Rail, which is powered by electricity, to swiftly recover the investment made due to its consistent service and high volume of users. He regarded the establishment as a mutually beneficial venture for both investors and commuters. Additionally, Muhammad encouraged other states to emulate Lagos in developing state-owned rail systems, especially in mega cities, to ease traffic congestion.

The managing director observed that the Blue Light Rail project would have been beneficial if implemented earlier but noted that its current introduction is still a positive development. He urged Lagos residents to take advantage of this cost-effective transportation facility.

Passengers of the Blue Light Rail also shared their experiences. Chidera Dim, a student, mentioned the significant time savings and suggested possible fare reductions for students. Economist Mr. Allen Williams appreciated the new service and called for passenger capacity specifications in each coach to avoid overcrowding. He also suggested collaborations for seamless commuter movement from stations to their destinations. Another passenger, Nathaniel, recommended establishing a desk for lost and found items.

French entrepreneur Mrs. Cecilia Evezi commended the government and President Bola Tinubu for establishing the rail service, noting that it reflects Nigeria’s progress.

The Blue Light Rail is expected to transform the commuting experience in Lagos, offering a quicker, more efficient alternative to road travel and potentially improving overall productivity and traffic conditions in the state.
