Abuja: The defendant, who was charged with mischief and theft, pleaded not guilty to the offences. The Prosecuting Counsel, Chinenye Okafor, alleged that the defendant on Aug. 2, went to the apartment he rented to the complainant, Godswill Uko, in Jabi, Abuja, and removed some doors and windows.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Okafor stated that upon returning from work, the complainant found his apartment open and several items missing, including a stabiliser valued at N55,000, a wristwatch worth N45,000, and an iPhone 12 Pro Max valued at N305,000. The alleged missing items were estimated to be worth a total of N405,000. The prosecutor emphasized that the offences contravened provisions of Sections 327 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The Magistrate, Habiba Bello, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with the condition of one surety. The surety must provide a means of identification and reside within the court’s jurisdiction. Additionally, the surety is required to swear to an affidavit of means, and the surety’s address must be verified by the court’s registrar. The case has been adjourned until Sept. 16 for further hearing.
