Post: LAWMA Revokes Licences of Five Underperforming Waste Operators in Lagos

Lagos: The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has revoked the licences of five Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators due to underperformance and has made adjustments to waste collection routes in areas experiencing increased waste generation. This was confirmed by the Managing Director of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, in a statement released to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the decision was part of a thorough operational review intended to match the capacity of operators with the rising waste management needs of Lagos State. The affected operators failed to meet the necessary service standards, prompting the withdrawal of their licences to safeguard public health and ensure environmental sustainability. The operators whose licences were withdrawn include Kenny JPS – Igando-Ikotun (Egan II), Clean Craft Nig. Ltd., Igando-Ikotun (Isheri-Oshun I), Doveroost Ltd., Eti-Osa West, Dewayls – Orade (Ijegun Emure), and Pesjoy Ventures – Ejigbo (Bucknor II).

Gbadeg
esin stated that waste collection routes have been realigned in rapidly developing areas with increased waste generation to enhance operational efficiency. Under the new arrangement, existing operators will retain certain route segments, while additional operators have been brought in to augment their capacity and provide more efficient service coverage. Operators affected by the route realignment include Shekaz Global Ltd – Isolo (Ishaga/Ire Akari axis) and Krestabol Waste Management – Ikorodu (Lowa).

In some regions where a single operator’s capacity has been exceeded by development, operational responsibilities have been redistributed to ensure prompt and effective service delivery. Gbadegesin noted that a few operators voluntarily gave up parts of their routes, allowing for reassignment to more capable operators. Notable operators in this category include Ayolade Oluwabukola Enterprises – Lagos Island East (Ajele axis) and Imperium Waste Services – Ayobo/Ipaja (Slot B).

Gbadegesin highlighted that this
restructuring is a strategic measure to enhance the PSP framework, boost accountability, and ensure that waste management services keep pace with Lagos’ rapid urban development. He called on residents to support the newly assigned operators and to use only LAWMA-accredited PSP operators. The LAWMA chief reaffirmed the authority’s dedication to ongoing monitoring, enforcement, and collaboration with stakeholders to achieve a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Lagos.
