Lagos: The Lekki Estates Residents and Stakeholders Association (LERSA) on Saturday extended its environmental sanitation campaign beyond residential estates to major highways. The association is urging residents in the area to complement the Lagos State Government’s efforts in keeping public infrastructure clean.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, LERSA is an umbrella body representing more than 100 estates from the 1004 area to Epe. The exercise, which covered the Coastal Road corridor to the Ajah under bridge in Lagos, is part of the association’s environmental sustainability drive under its 2026 strategic plan.
Chairman of the Environment Committee, LERSA, Mrs. Ronke Akinsete, stated that the exercise aligns with LERSA’s 2026 agenda on beautification, horticulture, tree planting, environmental cleaning, and public sensitization. Akinsete emphasized that the initiative promotes shared responsibility for environmental cleanliness.
Mrs. Akinsete recalled LERSA’s partnership with the state government in 2025 for tree planting across member estates, aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability. She highlighted the importance of combining awareness campaigns with practical clean-up exercises for achieving lasting environmental change.
Mrs. Ibiye Ekong, Chairman of the Stakeholder Engagement Committee, LERSA, stressed the importance of extending environmental sanitation beyond individual neighborhoods. She acknowledged residents’ participation in the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise but noted LERSA’s expanded efforts to include major roads and public spaces affecting commuters.
Mr. Abayomi Benson, Chairman of the Communication and Publicity Committee, LERSA, urged residents to adopt sanitation as a daily culture. He emphasized that environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility and should not be left to the government alone.
