Abuja: The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Mr. Christopher Maikalangu, has expressed his gratitude to the residents following his victory in the recent council election held on Saturday, assuring the public of an increase in community-focused projects throughout the municipality. Maikalangu addressed the public during a victory press briefing on Tuesday, held in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Maikalangu, represented by the Secretary-General of the Maikalangu/Nadabo Campaign Council, Mr. Zakari Babale, described the election as a historic moment, emphasizing it as a true reflection of the people’s democratic aspirations. He highlighted that the substantial turnout, with 40,295 votes, underscored the public’s trust in his leadership and their desire for the continuation of his policies in AMAC.
Maikalangu stated, “This victory, secured by over 40,000 of our residents, is not a win for one political party. It is a victory for every resident who believes in a better, more prosperous AMAC.” He affirmed the administration’s commitment to addressing community needs identified during ward-to-ward campaigns, promising improvements in security, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and empowerment.
He further remarked on his substantial victory margin, defeating opposition candidates by 28,000 votes, and termed it an unparalleled achievement in the electoral history of AMAC. He noted, “This is a clear statement to the entire nation that the FCT is a home for the APC, and the APC has come to stay.”
Maikalangu extended his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, for their leadership roles and transformative efforts in the capital. He also acknowledged the support and guidance of the Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariam Mahmoud, throughout the electoral process.
The Chairman expressed his appreciation to security agencies, the media, and party agents for ensuring a peaceful election process. He also recognized the support from traditional rulers, religious leaders, and the business community. Concluding his address, Maikalangu acknowledged the contributions of market women, artisans, transporters, and the broader business community, stating, “Your belief in our vision is the fuel that will drive our next term.”
