Post: MAN Receives Global Standards Certification

Oron: The Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), situated in Oron, Akwa Ibom, has been awarded the Integrated Management System (IMS) certifications, marking a significant achievement for the institution. The certifications, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 21001:2025, were officially presented to the academy’s management in Oron.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboryega Oyetola, extended his congratulations to the academy’s management for their accomplishment. He expressed that the recognition serves as a testament to the academy’s commitment to excellence, quality assurance, and environmental sustainability. Represented by Mr. John Ogwuche, a Deputy Director in the ministry, Dr. Oyetola highlighted that the certification reflects the institution’s adherence to international standards and best practices.

Dr. Oyetola noted that obtaining the Integrated Management System Certification signifies dedication to quality assurance and environmental sustainability, as well as occupational health and safety standards. He commended the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) for its dedication to promoting standardisation and quality assurance across sectors. Additionally, the minister pledged support for initiatives aimed at strengthening institutional standards within the academy and the broader maritime industry.

During the presentation of the certificates, SON Director-General, Dr. Ifeanyi Okeke, emphasized that the certification exemplifies the academy’s dedication to quality and operational efficiency. He stated that the ISO 9001:2015 framework is globally recognized for enhancing organizational processes and operational control. Dr. Okeke remarked that the successful certification of the academy to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 21001:2025 standards signifies the management’s commitment to quality, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Dr. Kevin Okonna, the Acting Rector of MAN, explained that the certification was essential to meet international standards for admission and training within the industry. He affirmed that the certifications confirm the academy’s commitment to providing high-quality education and training for the merchant navy, maritime industry, and related fields.
