Manchester united: Manchester United on Monday sacked head coach Ruben Amorim, a day after the team played out a 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Leeds United.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the English Premier League (EPL) club broke the news in a statement on its official website on Monday. United stated that the decision was made to enhance the team’s chances of securing the highest possible league finish, as the club currently sits sixth and trails leaders Arsenal by 17 points.
The club expressed in its statement, “With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.”
The Red Devils have secured only one victory in their last five league matches, leading the leadership to take decisive action even as the season remains competitive. The statement also pointed out that the dismissal followed Amorim’s firm responses regarding job security, where he insisted on holding full managerial authority beyond just coaching duties.
Amorim, 40, had appeared disheartened by transfer activity and reacted defensively after the draw with Leeds, challenging reporters over “selective information” while standing firm on his position. He had consistently emphasized his intention to remain at Old Trafford, underscoring his role’s authority beyond coaching responsibilities.
