Toase: A 24-year-old motor rider has been remanded into prison custody by the Toase District Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti region, for allegedly killing an illegal miner at Manso-Moseaso. The plea of Benjamin Kwakye was not taken, and he will be brought back before the court on March 03, 2026, as prosecution awaits advice from the Attorney General’s Office.
According to Ghana News Agency, Police Inspector Kwaku Frimpong, prosecuting, informed the court presided by Mr. Robert Addo that the complainant in the case was a 52-year-old father of Prince Amankwaa Tagoe, the deceased. The suspect and his brother, Paa Kwasi, along with the deceased, who was a friend, lived in the same house at Manso-Moseaso in the Amansie West District.
On March 03, 2025, a dispute arose when Paa Kwasi’s money went missing, leading him to suspect both the suspect and the deceased of conspiring to steal it. Consequently, he expelled the deceased from the house. This led to a confrontation between the deceased and the suspect regarding the missing money, escalating into a physical altercation.
On August 05, 2025, a chance encounter at a local chop bar resulted in another fight between the suspect and the deceased, during which the deceased allegedly threatened to kill the suspect. In response, the suspect reportedly threw an axe at the deceased’s head, rendering him unconscious and causing severe bleeding.
Following the incident, the suspect fled, while the deceased was taken to the Asuowin Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The Asuowin police were notified, and on February 13, the suspect was apprehended from his hideout in Dadiesoaba, located in the Ahafo region. In his caution statement, the suspect admitted to the offence, and subsequent investigations led to him being charged and brought before the court.
