Mangu: The Nigerian Navy has undertaken the construction of nine boreholes and a healthcare centre in the Fungzai Community of Bwai District, Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau. Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), inaugurated these projects, which are part of the Navy’s Quick Impact Projects. The inauguration was carried out by Rear Admiral Naan-Manle Damtong, the Chief of Naval Engineering, representing Abbas.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the projects were initiated by the immediate past CNS in 2024 to foster Civil Military Cooperation in Plateau. The CNS highlighted that these projects honor Rear Admiral Habila Zakaria, a native of the community, and serve to build trust and goodwill in the ongoing peace operations in the state.
Abbas emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to address the needs and aspirations of Nigerians. He stated, “These projects are avenues for the Nigerian Navy to honor its accomplished senior officers. It is an indication that beyond physically securing lives and property, we are committed to serving the interests of Nigerians through other ways.”
The CNS urged community residents to utilize the new facilities responsibly. Rear Admiral Zakaria expressed gratitude for the projects executed in his honor and noted that they would significantly alleviate the community’s lack of potable water and basic healthcare.
Zakaria stated, “These projects will open the doors to clean water, good health, and dignity to people and the community in general.” The District Head of Bwai, Mr. Gabriel Gusat, also expressed his thanks to the CNS for the interventions, assuring that the facilities would be well-maintained by the community.
