Abuja: The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has promoted 16,582 personnel in a recent exercise aimed at recognizing dedication and professionalism within the service. Controller-General Nwakuche highlighted the significance of the promotions, which reflect the institutional growth of NCoS nationwide.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Nwakuche expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support of correctional reforms and to Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo for his leadership. He also acknowledged the contributions of Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, for her administrative support.
Nwakuche detailed the promotions, noting that 11,417 senior officers and 4,253 junior officers advanced in rank. Additionally, 128 junior officers were upgraded to Assistant Superintendent of Corrections, and 89 Correctional Assistants moved to the Inspectorate cadre after obtaining relevant qualifications. Six officers received special promotion to the Inspector rank for exceptional performance.
Congratulating the newly promoted, Nwakuche emphasized the increased responsibility that comes with advancement and called for continued professionalism and discipline. He warned against indiscipline, trafficking, and inappropriate associations with inmates, stressing that such behaviors undermine the service’s integrity.
The Controller-General assured officers who were not promoted that dedication and competence remain key factors for future promotions. Nwakuche reaffirmed the service’s commitment to humane custody, effective rehabilitation, and public safety, while maintaining zero tolerance for misconduct.
