Kathmandu: Nepal has emerged victorious against Oman, securing an 81-run win in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 match held at TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Oman, chasing a target of 256 runs set by Nepal, were bowled out for 175 runs in 39.5 overs. Hammad Mirza and Vinayak Shukla were the key performers for Oman, scoring 34 and 36 runs, respectively. However, their efforts were not enough to surpass Nepal’s formidable bowling attack.
Gulshan Jha was the star bowler for Nepal, taking 5 wickets while conceding only 38 runs in his 9-over spell. His impressive performance, alongside supportive bowling from Karan KC, Nandan Yadav, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Sandeep Lamichhane, who each claimed a wicket, sealed the win for the hosts.
Earlier in the day, Nepal opted to bat first after winning the toss. They managed to post a challenging total of 256 runs in 49.5 overs. Aasif Sheikh played a remarkable innings, scoring 94 runs off 97 balls, including seven fours and five sixes, earning him the player of the match award. Contributions from Arjun Kumal, Aarif Sheikh, and Dipendra Singh Airee further boosted Nepal’s score.
On the bowling front for Oman, Nadeem Khan shone with 3 wickets in his 10-over spell, while Shakeel Ahmed and Jiten Ramanandi picked up 2 and 1 wicket, respectively. Despite their efforts, the Omani bowlers were unable to contain the Nepali batsmen, leading to their defeat.
