Post: Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to Skills Development as 700 Graduate in Oyo


Ibadan:President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s focus on skills development and sustainable livelihoods, as highlighted by the graduation of 700 participants from a vocational training program in Oyo State.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr. Abiola Arogundade, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education, emphasized this commitment during a graduation ceremony held in Ibadan. The event marked the culmination of a 10-day intensive training initiative under the National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS).



Arogundade stated that the program aligns with Tinubu’s vision to address Nigeria’s skills gap and empower young Nigerians with the necessary skills to thrive in the economy. The training aimed to help participants gain relevant skills, achieve economic independence, and build sustainable livelihoods.



The 700 beneficiaries included 30 individuals trained in artificial intelligence and graphics, 85 in makeup artistry, 85 in fashion design, and 500 in digital economy-related skills. Dr. Arogundade expressed personal and professional support for the project, noting its importance to both her and President Tinubu’s vision.



Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Oyo State, also spoke at the event, highlighting the program’s role in poverty reduction. He noted that this initiative is part of broader efforts by Tinubu’s administration to mitigate the impact of subsidy removal and address unemployment.



Senator Yunus Akintunde commended the program’s leaders and urged graduates to retain and utilize the equipment provided to them, despite any challenges. The Olubadan of Ibadanland, represented by Shola Ladoja, also praised the initiative for its potential to reduce poverty.



Upon completing the program, all participants received certificates and start-up kits to aid their transition into self-employment. The event drew a diverse audience, including youths, NGO representatives, politicians, traditional rulers, entrepreneurs, and academics.
