Ibiono Ibom:No fewer than six communities in Ibiono Ibom, Akwa Ibom, have been reconnected to the national grid after approximately 20 years without electricity.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Chairman, Mr. Asuakak Umoh, announced the reconnection during a tour with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom Council. He explained that faulty transformers, damaged cables, and other accessories were replaced to facilitate the reconnection.
Mr. Umoh identified the benefiting communities as Use-Ikot Antono, Ikot Anya Ono, Aka Ikot Udo Eno, Ibiaku Inyang Isong, Ikot Amba, and Awat Nkang village. His administration has also achieved significant progress in health, infrastructure, agriculture, education, and human capital development.
The primary health centre in Idoro has been renovated, and five medical doctors have been employed to ensure effective service delivery. The council has provided well-furnished accommodation and a monthly upkeep allowance of N150,000 for the medical doctors. Additionally, micronutrients and therapeutic food are supplied to malnourished children in rural communities to improve their health and promote growth.
In agriculture, the council has invested by cultivating a five-hectare rice plantation at Ikot Esen, along with crops such as okra, corn, yam, sweet yam, tomatoes, maize, and groundnut.
The Traditional Rulers’ Council complex has been completed, including a 0.45km access road. The Ibiono Ibom Council Multi-purpose Hall has been renovated, and the council legislative chamber furnished to enhance third-tier legislation.
Twelve indigent students from the area have been awarded full university scholarships, and 110 pupils in 11 public primary schools received customized shoes. The council also distributed 550 customized uniforms to pupils in five public schools and provided a N50,000 monthly stipend to head teachers in rural communities. Support has been consistently given to children studying law, medicine, and postgraduate courses.
Mr. Umoh encouraged the people of Ibiono Ibom to continue supporting the Umo Eno-led government and contribute to enhancing service delivery.
