Abuja: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has announced that real estate developers are leveraging newly built road infrastructure to launch building projects along new road corridors across Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike made these remarks after inspecting the ongoing construction of an access road to the FCT Fire Service Station in Kaura District, which stretches from Ring Road II to Oladipo Diya Way in Gaduwa District, Abuja. The project encompasses the construction of a collector road, two Important Local Streets, and a minor access road aimed at enhancing connectivity and access in the rapidly developing districts.
Wike highlighted that the introduction of new road infrastructure is yielding positive socio-economic benefits, such as increased investment opportunities and improved employment prospects for young people throughout the Federal Capital Territory. He emphasized the strategic importance of the access road, noting that its completion would transform the area’s physical landscape, improve accessibility, and stimulate economic activities in the adjoining communities and neighborhoods.
Expressing satisfaction with the work’s progress, Wike noted significant advancements since his last inspection, particularly the successful completion of the bridge structure within the project. He stated that while the initial segment of the road directly connects to the newly completed bridge, the contractor has been instructed to further extend the project.
“The first segment of this road is building the bridge that leads to that point, but we have told them that it should be extended to Oladipo Diya Way,” Wike explained. He added that there is considerable pressure on the contractor to include the extensions for greater effectiveness.
Despite the additional work brought by the proposed extension, Wike assured that the contractor remains confident in delivering the project on schedule. “They are still insisting that by December they will hand over the project. What I do not know is if the extension will be included,” he said. Wike added that the completed project would significantly alter and enhance the area’s topography and landscape.
The minister committed to continued support for the contractor and assured prompt processing of necessary payments to sustain progress and ensure timely completion. “We are happy with the job they have carried out. We are going back to see that payments are made to them so they can expedite action. We believe that the company will do their best to meet up with the time,” Wike concluded.
