Abuja: The Empowering Abilities Through Inclusive Pages (EATIP) Project, a non-governmental organization, has advanced its inclusive education drive following an advocacy visit to the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).
According to News Agency of Nigeria, this development was detailed in a statement released in Abuja by Dr. Praise Akobo, Executive Director of YieldUp Development Initiative. Akobo announced that the EATIP team was received on November 18, 2025, by the Executive Secretary of NERDC, Prof. Salisu Shehu, along with other directors of the council. The purpose of the meeting was to seek NERDC’s support for the assessment and integration into the curriculum of its inclusive book titled ‘Awakening Possibilities in Disabilities.’
Akobo explained that the book is designed for students both with and without disabilities and will be available in print and braille formats. The production will receive adaptation support from the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD). She noted that four copies of the book were submitted to NERDC on January 29, 2026, for assessment, and the review process is currently ongoing.
Akobo further stated that feedback from NERDC will be sent to the Minister of Education and the author to guide necessary revisions before the book’s integration into the curriculum. She added that this integration is needed before the planned book launch, which is scheduled between March and April 2026, pending official feedback.
Additionally, Akobo mentioned that the team presented two other initiatives during their visit. These included the ‘Waste to Worth’ recycling program, which aims to promote cognitive, environmental, and entrepreneurial skills among learners. The project also proposed the expansion of its Universal Design for Learning Teacher Training in Abuja and other states through NERDC’s Special Needs Programme Department.
