Lagos: The FC Robo football academy in Lagos, Nigeria, is making headlines as a nurturing ground for young female football talents. The academy has produced five players for the current women’s national team set to compete in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
According to Deutsche Welle, among these players is the renowned striker Asisat Oshoala, who has played in football leagues across England, Spain, and Saudi Arabia. Despite her international career, Oshoala continues to train at FC Robo whenever she is in Nigeria. She emphasizes the importance of her presence at the academy, stating, “It’s good to be around these girls sometimes so that they know that, if they put their mind to it, there’s really nothing out there to stop them.”
The FC Robo academy continues to develop future African football stars despite facing challenges such as limited funding and basic facilities.
