Abuja: The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has urged its 415 newly inducted members to participate actively in the institute’s activities to build a stronger public relations profession, a better Nigeria, and Africa. The President and Chairman of the Governing Council of NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku, gave the charge at the institute’s second quarter 2026 induction ceremony on Friday.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Neliaku emphasized the need for exceptional leadership to address contemporary challenges, noting that public relations professionals have a crucial role in promoting trust and national cohesion. He stated, “We are now transiting from the era of great leadership to the era of exceptional leadership. Public relations professionals were part of the vanguards of that movement.”
Neliaku highlighted the urgent need for leadership that can unite Nigeria and project Africa’s strengths, opportunities, and aspirations with confidence and credibility. He urged the inductees to actively participate in their states’ activities and join any of the hubs to help build a stronger profession and nation.
He further called on the inductees to contribute to repositioning Nigeria as a leader in Africa and enhancing the continent’s global competitiveness. “I welcome you to the beautiful family of NIPR and to the noble responsibility of helping to shape better Nigeria’s narratives, a better Africa, and a better world,” Neliaku said.
Vice President of NIPR, Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura, addressing the inductees virtually, noted that they joined the institute at a defining moment in its history. He mentioned upcoming events like the World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) in November and the commencement of the NIPR’s University of Public Relations and Leadership in Nasarawa State.
In his induction lecture, Mr. Sam Nwaobasi, Special Adviser on Programme, Policy Implementation and Monitoring to the Governor of Imo State, emphasized the importance of upholding the institute’s values. He highlighted the primary responsibility of shaping perception, managing reputation, and preserving brands.
Nwaobasi advised practitioners to cultivate good character, stay informed about current affairs, and acquire digital skills. He stressed the importance of understanding organizational missions and values and maintaining effective communication skills.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Mrs. Maryam Sanusi presented the inductees to Neliaku, while Mr. Uzoma Onyebadue administered the oath. The event was graced by dignitaries who congratulated the inductees and reaffirmed their support for the institute’s mandate.
