Abuja:Presidential candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), Dr. Esther Okereke, has declared that she will not reintroduce the fuel subsidy if elected. Instead, she plans for savings from its removal to benefit all Nigerians.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Okereke made these remarks during a personality interview series in Abuja. She emphasized that transparency and the proper allocation of the savings from the subsidy removal are critical challenges that must be addressed.
Okereke highlighted her commitment to ensuring that the economic gains from the removal of the petrol subsidy are felt by all Nigerians, including those at the grassroots level. She stated that the proceeds should serve everyone, rather than benefiting only a privileged few.
In response to potential challenges in office, Okereke expressed her belief in adapting to circumstances and making the best of available resources. She underscored the importance of harnessing Nigeria’s resources to foster development and reduce reliance on borrowing.
Okereke also reaffirmed her commitment to fiscal responsibility, pledging to block revenue leakages and redirect public funds toward sustainable development projects. These efforts are aimed at improving infrastructure, social welfare, and economic opportunities for ordinary Nigerians.
