Abuja: Dr Ahmed Audi, Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), inaugurated a tactical training ground and obstacle course for personnel of the NSCDC FCT Command.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the 1.5-hectare training ground was constructed under the supervision of the NSCDC FCT Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu. This facility, located at the command headquarters in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, is intended to provide personnel with realistic operational exercises to prepare them for real-life emergencies.
Audi remarked that the project aligns with the corps’ vision of developing a modern, intelligence-driven, and technologically compliant team capable of tackling both conventional and emerging security threats. He emphasized the need for a skilled, competent, well-trained workforce that is alert and professional.
He stated, “This tactical training ground will provide a realistic environment where our officers and men can improve on their physical fitness, tactical maneuvers, endurance, confidence, teamwork, and operational readiness before deployment to various assignments.” He also stressed that training and re-training are strategically important for achieving sustainable excellence within the organization.
The CG encouraged officers to maximize the training facility’s opportunities, emphasizing that the exercises are aimed at safeguarding the lives, property, and freedom of Nigerians. He urged personnel to maintain discipline, professionalism, and integrity, reflecting the high standards expected of the corps in the nation’s capital.
Audi expressed hope that the training ground would become a center of excellence for operational competence, serving as a model for other commands across the federation. He commended the FCT commandant for the initiative and described the facility as a legacy project that will enhance the corps’ capacity for years to come.
He noted that the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has directed an upgrade of the training ground. Audi reiterated the corps’ commitment to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and appreciated key stakeholders for their support in strengthening the NSCDC’s mandate.
In his remarks, FCT Commandant Dr Olusola Odumosu highlighted the necessity of the training ground in preparing officers for the complex security environment of the FCT and the nation. He emphasized its role as a strategic investment in operational readiness, where competence, discipline, and operational confidence are developed.
Odumosu detailed the training programs offered, including obstacle crossing, endurance drills, tactical movement, and disaster response exercises, among others. He urged personnel to utilize the facility effectively, emphasizing that training could save lives and enhance the security services provided to FCT residents.
He assured that the training ground would continue to produce officers characterized by courage, discipline, professionalism, and selfless service. Odumosu expressed gratitude to the CG and the FCT minister for their support and acknowledged the contributions of construction companies involved in the project.
