Lagos: The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Mrs. Margaret Oguntala, has officially inaugurated the construction of an 18-unit residential terrace in the upscale Alausa area of Lagos. This project aims to contribute to bridging Nigeria’s housing deficit.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC), Messrs Locke Homes Ltd, and NSE Ventures Ltd (NSEVL), which serves as the business arm of the Society. Oguntala emphasized that the sod-turning ceremony of the NSEVL-LSDPC-LOCKE HOMES joint venture marks a significant milestone in the Society’s history, demonstrating a unified commitment to sustainable infrastructure and housing development across Lagos State and Nigeria.
Oguntala highlighted that the project is a strategic effort by the NSE to meaningfully address the ongoing challenge of housing shortages in the country. She stressed the critical role that housing plays in national development, economic growth, and social stability. The president called upon all levels of government, private sector stakeholders, and development partners to support housing initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable urban development collectively.
Expressing gratitude, Oguntala thanked the Lagos State Government for providing the land allocation that made the project possible, noting that it reflects the confidence in the engineering profession’s ability to deliver valuable projects. She also praised the dedication and professionalism of the board and management of NSE Ventures Ltd, LSDPC, and Locke Homes in turning the vision into reality.
Oguntala urged all professionals involved in the project to adhere to the highest standards throughout the project’s lifecycle, emphasizing the importance of quality, safety, sustainability, and best engineering practices. Mr. Olufemi Dosumu, Chairman of NSE Ventures Ltd., expressed appreciation for the NSE President’s steadfast support, particularly during challenging times related to land title documentation. He also commended Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his ongoing reforms that enhance Lagos’s reputation as a peaceful business hub.
Dosumu acknowledged past leaders of NSEVL for their foresight in acquiring the land nearly 30 years ago, emphasizing that the NSEVL was established in 1989 to explore and promote business opportunities for the Society’s benefit. He stated that the project would create jobs, foster skills development, and inspire young minds, ultimately contributing to national growth.
Gboyega Fatimiehin, Chief Executive Officer of Locke Homes Ltd., provided an overview of the project, describing it as a residential accommodation comprising 18 terrace units with a planned completion period of 30 months.
