Abuja: The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council has described the death of Mr. Peter Onwubuariri, Assistant Director, Media, at the Presidential Villa, as a huge loss to the Nigerian media industry. This is contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of Council, Ms. Grace Ike on Wednesday.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Onwubuariri’s death is seen as a profound loss to the media fraternity and the nation. He will be remembered for his rich experience, valuable contributions to journalism, and exemplary service to the nation. Until his passing, Onwubuariri was a respected News Agency of Nigeria correspondent deployed to the Presidential Villa, serving diligently in the media teams of three successive administrations.
Onwubuariri was widely known for his professional depth, sound judgment, and exceptional understanding of the relationship between government institutions and the media. Before joining the Presidential Villa press corps, he had risen through the ranks at NAN, where he served as Assistant Editor-in-Chief and made notable contributions to the agency’s editorial development and news operations.
The NUJ FCT Council recalls his unwavering dedication, competence, and sense of responsibility, which earned him the confidence of colleagues and senior officials throughout his years of service. Ms. Grace Ike further described his death as ‘deeply painful.’
Ike highlighted that Onwubuariri was a committed and highly respected journalist whose calm disposition, professionalism, and devotion to duty endeared him to colleagues and associates. On behalf of the Executive and entire membership of the NUJ FCT Council, she extended heartfelt condolences to his wife, children, siblings, extended family, colleagues, and friends. The council prayed for God to grant the bereaved family the courage to bear the irreplaceable loss and to grant the departed soul eternal rest.
