Lagos: The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has called on young Nigerians to maintain a positive outlook on the Nigerian project and actively engage in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Chairman of the NYCN, Lagos State Chapter, Master Ibrahim Adigun, made this appeal during an interview. Adigun, who also chairs the Forum of State Chairmen of the council across Nigeria, spoke at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) stakeholders’ meeting for the CVR’s second phase in Lagos.
Adigun emphasized the importance of youth involvement in the electoral process, noting that participation is crucial for holding the government accountable. He urged young Nigerians, including those abroad who intend to return for voting, to engage in the process and dismiss concerns about election rigging and manipulation.
He highlighted the significant youth turnout during the first phase of the CVR, attributing it to the council’s extensive grassroots advocacy efforts. He noted that young individuals constituted about 65% of participants, a testament to the council’s mobilization strategies.
The NYCN plans to strengthen its collaboration with INEC to further enhance youth inclusion in the electoral process nationwide. Adigun concluded by urging Nigerian youths, both at home and abroad, to participate in upcoming elections, reinforcing the message that Nigeria is their home and their engagement is vital.
