Abuja: The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has expressed gratitude towards security agencies and several groups for the effective rescue of 16 corps members who were abducted in Kogi.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the corps members were kidnapped on August 26 while traveling from the NYSC Orientation Camp in Bayelsa to Abuja after completing their Orientation Course. Caroline Embu, Director of Information and Public Relations, shared the management’s commendation through a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja.
Embu praised the Nigerian Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and Kogi State Vigilante groups for their critical roles in the rescue operation. She highlighted their professionalism, courage, commitment, and coordination during the search and rescue mission.
Additionally, Embu recognized the support from President Bola Tinubu, the Office of the National Security Adviser, and the Minister of Youth Development for their dedication to ensuring the safe recovery of the corps members. She noted that the security agencies were motivated by the President’s concern and commitment to quickly and successfully rescuing the corps members.
The NYSC also extended its appreciation to the families of the corps members for their patience and cooperation throughout the ordeal. The scheme praised the media for handling the incident professionally, ensuring the safety of the corps members while they were in captivity.
“Management is relieved that all affected corps members have been safely recovered and are in high spirits, eager to resume at their places of primary assignment. Their resolute spirit is humbling and instructive, and NYSC remains committed to supporting them as they recover from this traumatic experience,” Embu stated.
She further mentioned that the scheme would continue collaborating with government and security agencies to enhance protective measures for corps members nationwide. “Lessons have been learned, and protocols will be reviewed to forestall future occurrences,” Embu concluded.
