Jos: The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is set to implement an initiative aimed at enhancing the inclusion of corps members with disabilities, as announced by Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu during the opening ceremony of the NYSC 2026 pre-orientation workshop in Jos. This initiative emphasizes compliance, dignity, inclusion, and equal opportunity, reflecting NYSC’s commitment to being a humane and nationally responsive institution.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Brig.-Gen. Nafiu, in his keynote address, described the pre-orientation workshop as a strategic platform rather than a routine administrative exercise. He highlighted the workshop’s role in facilitating critical planning and reflection ahead of the NYSC service year’s orientation course, which he described as fundamental to the entire service year. The orientation course is seen as the starting point for service, character development, and citizenship affirmation.
Nafiu emphasized the importance of continuously reimagining the orientation programme to align with national realities, global best practices, and evolving youth behavior. The workshop’s theme, ‘Revamping the NYSC Orientation Course Experience as a Foundation for Impactful Service by Corps Members,’ supports the scheme’s objective of producing disciplined, patriotic, and socially responsible citizens.
The NYSC leader praised the dedication and professionalism of management and camp officials, specifically highlighting the successful execution of the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Orientation exercise. He underscored the role of teamwork and institutional discipline in this achievement. The 2026 workshop will introduce innovative sessions, open-mic discussions to address emerging challenges, improved camp management strategies, enhanced stakeholder collaboration, and new practical training modules to equip corps members with post-camp skills.
Nafiu encouraged active participation from the workshop attendees to ensure practical and actionable outcomes that will enhance the orientation course across the nation. The workshop, which began on Tuesday, is set to conclude on Friday.
