Post: Opay to Establish Cybersecurity Laboratory at UniCal


Calabar: A popular Financial Technology (Fintech) firm, OPay, has unveiled its plans to establish a cybersecurity laboratory in the University of Calabar (UniCal). The Fintech firm made the disclosure when its delegation visited UniCal’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Offiong Offiong in Calabar.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the delegation was led by Mr. Itoro Udo, who stated that the visit aimed to fulfill the firm’s promise to the university. He emphasized the importance of the project by announcing the involvement of Hunter Flex Intercoms Construction Company, which will implement the laboratory. Udo highlighted the partnership between Opay and UniCal, which began in 2023, and reiterated the company’s commitment to delivering significant projects.



In addition to the cybersecurity laboratory, Udo mentioned that Opay would support UniCal in hosting the Nigeria University Games in August 2026. This support aligns with the company’s goal of strengthening its relationship with the university.



Prof. Offiong expressed his appreciation for Opay’s initiative, noting its importance in enhancing the institution’s technological capabilities. He stated that the cybersecurity laboratory would equip students with advanced digital skills and innovation opportunities. Offiong assured that the university would provide the necessary support to ensure the project’s successful completion.



He also acknowledged Opay’s support for the upcoming university games, indicating that preparations are already in process for the event’s successful execution.
