Abuja: The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has commenced the construction of its National Secretariat in Abuja, naming the building ‘Olatunji Disu House’ in honour of the Inspector-General of Police. The National Chairman of PCRC, Alhaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, announced this at the foundation-laying ceremony, highlighting the significance of this development.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Olaniyan described the project as a major milestone for the committee, marking a transition from a temporary office structure to a permanent headquarters. This follows the approval of the Federal Capital Development Authority for the allocated site. Olaniyan expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Police Affairs and successive police leadership for their support in securing the land and advancing the committee’s long-term development plans.
The project will be executed through a public-private partnership to alleviate financial pressure on the Federal Government and ensure timely completion. Olaniyan explained that a private developer was secured through Nigeria Police Property Limited to build the estate and the National Secretariat. He emphasized that naming the secretariat after the Inspector-General was a tribute to his family’s longstanding support for PCRC activities and community policing initiatives across the country. Olaniyan noted that the IGP’s father had been an active PCRC member in Lagos, consistently contributing to the organisation’s programmes.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Zone 7, Mr. Victor Olaiya, who performed the foundation laying, stated that the project represented a significant step towards strengthening the committee’s institutional capacity and infrastructure. He expressed optimism that the secretariat would be completed within schedule, highlighting that similar PCRC projects in Zone 7 had been successfully delivered within a short period. The project, which includes office spaces and hotel accommodation, is expected to be completed and commissioned by December.
