Post: PDP Dismisses Turaki-Led Interim National Working Committee

Abuja: The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Abdulraman Mohammed, has dismissed the recent 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and the establishment of the Tanimu Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee that emerged from the meeting. Mohammed, through a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, emphasized that no such meeting, purportedly chaired by Sen. Adolphus Wabara, was convened by the legitimate leadership of the party.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mohammed declared that any resolution emanating from the mentioned NEC meeting was null, void, and without effect. He highlighted that the party’s constitution does not support the creation of a caretaker committee. Mohammed further argued that even if the meeting had any legal standing, it failed to adhere to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, particularly the requirement to notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at least 21 days prior to such a meeting.

Mohammed pointed out that there was a lack of evidence showing compliance with this mandate, as INEC was neither informed nor present at the meeting, rendering the actions taken as invalid. He also expressed concern over Wabara’s involvement, noting that Wabara had been expelled at the ward level for anti-party activities, especially for openly supporting Gov. Alex Otti’s election.

The statement also addressed the attempt to legitimize the actions under the guise of the Board of Trustees (BoT), clarifying that the BoT serves only an advisory role without executive powers. Mohammed called on regulatory bodies to take note of these actions and consider disciplinary measures. He stressed that the incident was an attempt to mislead the public and create confusion within the party.

Mohammed urged all party members, stakeholders, and the general public to disregard the illegitimate assembly and its outcomes, asserting that the meeting had no constitutional, legal, or authoritative basis.
