Abuja: The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has officially recognized the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) as one of the top five best-performing Federal Government agencies for 2025 under the Transparency and Efficiency Category. This announcement was made during the PEBEC Awards and Gala Night held at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha, Head of Public Affairs at NCC, highlighted that alongside NCC, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board was acknowledged as the overall best-performing agency. Other agencies recognized include the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, which secured the second position, as well as the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigerian Ports Authority. The awards celebrate transparency and efficiency within Nigeria’s public service and were presented to NCC for its dedication to openness, accountability, and operational excellence in public service delivery.
Receiving the award, Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice-Chairman of the NCC, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability in its regulatory framework. He emphasized that these principles are vital for enhancing industry performance and fostering a conducive environment for the growth of telecommunications businesses. Dr. Maida expressed pride in being recognized among the top-performing agencies, stating that this accolade validates the NCC’s values and efforts toward regulatory excellence. He assured that the commission will continue to create an environment conducive to investment and healthy competition, ensuring consumers receive superior services.
Dr. Maida also emphasized the importance of collaboration with stakeholders, noting that substantial progress in the sector is achievable only through collective action. The PEBEC Director-General, Zahrah Mustapha-Audu, underscored the significance of the event, describing it as a celebration of reform champions who have embraced excellence in public service delivery. She highlighted the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in driving the reform efforts aimed at making Nigeria an attractive destination for business.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who chairs the council, remarked that the awards demonstrate the government’s dedication to a more efficient and competitive public service. He acknowledged the ongoing reforms that align with Nigeria’s economic aspirations, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts across various sectors to ensure national growth and prosperity.
