Abuja: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., left Liberia earlier today, June 19, 2025, to attend the West Africa Economic Summit (WAES), which will be held from June 20-21, 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria.
According to African Press Organization, the West Africa Economic Summit is a significant event that gathers Heads of State, senior government officials, private sector leaders, and development partners from the region. The summit focuses on strategies to enhance trade, investment, and regional integration, serving as a platform for developing policies and partnerships aimed at fostering sustainable economic growth, creating jobs, and advancing industrial development in West Africa.
President Boakai is set to deliver a speech at the WAES Forum, where he will outline Liberia’s vision for economic transformation. He plans to highlight investment opportunities in key sectors such as agriculture, energy, infrastructure, tourism, and digital innovation.
Accompanying the President are several key members of his administration, including Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, Minister of Finance and Development Planning; Magdalene Dagoseh, Minister of Commerce; Alexander Nuetah, Minister of Agriculture; and Wilmot Paye, Minister of Mines and Energy, among others. The delegation also includes communication, security, and protocol teams.
During President Boakai’s absence, the Minister of Justice, Cllr. Oswald Tweh, will lead the Cabinet, maintaining governance oversight in consultation with the President via telephone. The President and his team are expected to return to Liberia on Monday, June 23, 2025.
