Sokoto: Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto North), on Saturday donated foodstuffs and other utilities to no fewer than 1,787 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state. Wamakko, represented by his Director of Administration, Alhaji Al-Mustapha Abubakar, mentioned that the gesture was intended to support the IDPs as they prepared for the approaching Ramadan fasting.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the items would be distributed across nine IDP camps identified within the state metropolis. The former Governor, who spoke at the inauguration ceremony at his Constituency office in Sokoto, highlighted that this initiative was part of his regular commitment to complement government’s efforts in alleviating the economic hardship faced by IDPs.

He reassured the IDPs of the state and Federal Government’s awareness of their current situation and their ongoing commitment to ensuring their safety. He also conveyed hope that the current conditions were not permanent, and the IDPs would soon return to their homes to reunite with their families and loved ones.
The items for distribution included 200 bags of rice and maize, 400 bags of millet, 3,560 pieces of clothing materials for women, children, and men, 100 cartons of vegetable oil and seasoning, and 70 bags of salt. Other utilities included tomato mix, blankets, casseroles, and mosquito nets.
