Abuja: The Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Christopher Jen, emphasized that inmates can undergo reformation and reintegration when provided with appropriate support. Jen made this statement in Abuja during the reception of vocational materials donated by the Gbenga Omotoyinbo Foundation, a Non-Profit Organisation, at the Command Headquarters in Gwagwalada.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Jen, represented by the Deputy Controller of Corrections in charge of operations, Oguama Ambrose, highlighted the crucial role of public confidence in the correctional service in facilitating change. He encouraged inmates to respond with diligence and discipline to the efforts made by the service and partnering NGOs.
Jen stated, “With the belief that people have in the correctional system, change, reformation and integration is possible. I urge inmates to work hard in complementing the efforts of the service and partner NGOs.”
He further mentioned that the donated items were aimed at bolstering existing vocational skill centres in custodial centres across the FCT. The collaboration with the foundation is expected to enhance rehabilitation programmes and equip more inmates with practical skills for effective reintegration post-release.
The FCT controller of corrections expressed gratitude to the foundation for their support and assured them that the donated items would be used judiciously. The items included materials for shoe, tailoring, and bag making, among others.
