Port harcourt: The Rivers Ijaw People’s Congress has announced its decision to abandon Governor Siminilayi Fubara of Rivers State, pledging allegiance to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike. This significant political shift was declared by the Chairman of the congress, Sen. George Sekibo, during Wike’s ‘thank you’ visit to the Okrika Local Government Area.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Sekibo described the ongoing feud between Fubara and Wike as ‘very unfortunate’, emphasizing that the Ijaw people are not ungrateful. He highlighted Wike’s support in Fubara’s emergence as the governor of Rivers State, which was widely endorsed by the populace across the state. Sekibo reassured Wike of the Ijaw people’s support, stating their decision to back Wike was due to his contributions to their community.
Furthermore, Sekibo expressed the group’s complete loyalty to President Bola Tinubu, affirming their gratitude and unwavering support for Wike. He reiterated the resolve of the Ijaw people to stand by Wike, acknowledging his past support for the Ijaw community.
In addition, Mr. Akuro Tobin, Chairman of Okrika Local Government Council, hailed Wike as his ‘political Godfather’. Tobin acknowledged Wike’s role in facilitating the political success of numerous individuals from the area. He affirmed the steadfast support of the local men, women, and youths for Wike and President Tinubu.
Mrs. Linda Stewart, Deputy Speaker of the Rivers Assembly, representing Okrika Constituency, spoke on behalf of Okrika women, praising Wike’s unprecedented support for women and expressing her prayers for his success.
In his address, Wike expressed gratitude for the community’s support and their alliance with President Tinubu. He commended Tinubu as a leader who fulfills promises and encouraged the people of Okrika to continue their backing of trustworthy leaders.
During his visit to the ‘Amanyanabo’ of Okochiri Kingdom, King Akete Tom, Wike commended the traditional leader for maintaining unity among his people. He hinted at decisions regarding the 2027 election, requesting the traditional ruler to refrain from interfering in political matters but to provide guidance when necessary.
