Apapa: Staff of General Hospital, Apapa, have commended the Medical Director, Dr Ime Okon, for improving staff welfare and hospital services in her first 100 days in office. The event marking her 100 days in office was held on Wednesday at the hospital premises.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr Adegboyega Adeyemi, Consultant in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, highlighted that Dr Okon prioritised staff welfare, particularly for doctors, shortly after assuming office. This initiative has boosted morale and productivity among the hospital staff. Adeyemi noted that Dr Okon began settling inherited debts and improved the hospital’s relationship with suppliers. She also attracted interventions to address infrastructure challenges, including flooding, while enhancing laboratory services and other hospital facilities.
Dr Ridwan Kekere-Ekun, Chief Dental Officer, acknowledged that Dr Okon encouraged staff participation, motivation, and accountability. Her close supervision of assigned responsibilities ensured tasks were completed, leading to increased revenue and improvements in security, punctuality, and other hospital operations. Kekere-Ekun praised Okon for supporting the renovation of the maternity ward and developing a new emergency unit.
Dr Oluwatoyin Aroboto, Head of the Eye Clinic and Service Charter, congratulated Dr Okon, noting that the department now performed major eye surgeries with necessary instruments previously unavailable. Aroboto highlighted the improvements in optical services and appealed for a dedicated theatre for the Eye Clinic.
Mrs Elizabeth Osibodu, Head of Administration and Human Resources, stated that Dr Okon had improved service delivery and staff welfare since assuming office on June 1. Osibodu mentioned that Okon promptly provided resources requested by departments and renovated the abandoned maternity section, introducing an antenatal clinic programme to attract more patients.
Ms Margaret Osinowo, Director of Nursing Services and Apex Nurse, described Dr Okon as a creative and transformative leader. Osinowo praised Okon for renovating the old maternity ward and facilitating the transformation of the Accident and Emergency Department, thereby improving healthcare delivery.
Miss Hawau Muka-Oshodi from the Domestic Department commended Dr Okon for enhancing staff welfare and the hospital environment. She noted the renovations of the female ward and ensured the hospital’s CCTV cameras functioned round-the-clock.
Mrs Alimat Abdulquadri, also from the Domestic Department, praised Dr Okon for enhancing cleanliness across the hospital, particularly the public toilets. Abdulquadri expressed satisfaction with the improvements, which had made the hospital environment more pleasant and the staff proud of their workplace.
The event featured lectures on disciplinary proceedings in the Lagos State public and civil service, as well as HIV prevention and emerging trends. Staff from various departments participated in a quiz competition and received cash prizes for their outstanding performance.
