Abuja: The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced that President Bola Tinubu is committed to ensuring a peaceful South-East region where Nigerians can enjoy stability and development. Idris made these remarks during a news conference at the South-East Regional Security Summit held in Umuahia, Abia.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the summit, themed ‘Collaborative Approaches to Strengthen Security and Regional Stability,’ was organized by the Federal Ministry of Defence in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, South-East. The event brought together key stakeholders, including government representatives, security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders, professionals, and youth representatives, to address the security challenges facing the region.
The minister emphasized that the stakeholders’ participation highlighted a collective responsibility towards security, aligning with President Tinubu’s vision that every Nigerian deserves to live and work in a safe environment. He outlined that the administration’s approach to security involves a combination of effective law enforcement, intelligence-driven operations, community engagement, and economic empowerment.
Idris stated that the Federal Government acknowledges that long-lasting security cannot be achieved through force alone. Economic opportunities, hope for young people, thriving businesses, and communities’ confidence in government are essential components of peace and stability. The Renewed Hope Agenda integrates security with economic development, infrastructure renewal, human capital investment, and social inclusion.
The summit underscored the administration’s dedication to engaging with citizens and stakeholders across the country to devise solutions tailored to local realities. It also provided a platform to demonstrate the Federal Government’s broader efforts in repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth and development.
Idris highlighted the enormous potential of the South-East region and the government’s commitment to creating conditions for business prosperity and industrial growth. He noted that President Tinubu is leading significant reforms to rebuild Nigeria’s economic foundation, including tackling fiscal pressures, exchange rate distortions, and structural weaknesses.
The President’s decision to remove fuel subsidies and reform the foreign exchange market is part of a broader strategy to foster a transparent and investment-friendly economy. The government is also implementing support measures for Nigerians, such as programs for small businesses, consumer credit initiatives, student financing, and social protection.
A peaceful South-East is envisioned as a hub for investment, economic growth, and empowerment, contributing to national stability.
