Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has approved the assignment of 65 ambassadors-designate to Nigeria’s foreign missions and the United Nations. This significant diplomatic reshuffle includes 31 non-career and 34 career ambassadors, whose nominations were confirmed by the Senate in December 2025.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the announcement was made through a statement issued by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, in Abuja. Among the high-profile non-career appointments, former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has been posted to Germany, while Jimoh Ibrahim has been appointed as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Reno Omokri will serve as the ambassador to Mexico, and Lateef Are has been designated for the United States.
Other notable non-career envoys include former Health Minister Isaac Adewole, who will represent Nigeria in Canada, and Aminu Dalhatu, who will serve as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. Ita Enang has been posted to South Africa, former INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu to Qatar, and Grace Bent to Togo.
Among the career diplomats, Mohammed Mahmud Lele has been assigned to Algeria, Shehu Barde to Ghana, and Abdussalam Zayyad to Senegal. Additional appointments include Bako Umar to Morocco, Aminu Nasir to Ethiopia, and Ibrahim Danlami to Kenya.
Onanuga also stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agr©ment from the United Kingdom for Dalhatu and from France for Ayodele Oke. The nominations for the remaining envoys have been sent to their respective host countries for agr©ment, in accordance with diplomatic protocols.
President Tinubu has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately initiate an induction program for the ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners, ensuring they are well-prepared for their roles in strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic presence and international relations.
