Abuja: Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued 34 kidnap victims, apprehended suspected ISWAP informants, and recovered arms and ammunition in a series of coordinated operations across the country within the last 24 hours.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the operations were part of efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of citizens. The report detailed that troops of Operation HADIN KAI rescued 31 kidnap victims from terrorists along the Buratai-Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno. The rescue came after troops of 135 Special Forces Battalion detected ISWAP/JAS terrorists abducting civilians via CCTV surveillance and quickly deployed a reaction force that engaged the terrorists, leading them to abandon the victims.
In a separate operation, troops of 145 Battalion conducted a fighting patrol to the Turoh general area of Damasak in Mobbar Local Government Area, forcing terrorists to flee and leaving behind two motorcycles and illicit drugs. Meanwhile, troops of 232 Battalion Tactical apprehended a suspected ISWAP informant at Garaha Market in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa.
In the North-West region, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA engaged terrorists moving with rustled cattle in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara. The superior firepower of the troops caused the terrorists to retreat in disarray. Additionally, troops of Operation MESA successfully rescued a kidnapped woman and her two children along the old Obajana-Jakura-Tajimi road in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi, following an investigation into their abduction from a Ruga settlement.
In Plateau State, troops of Operation Enduring Peace responded to reports of an attack on a herder in Bassa Local Government Area, although the assailants fled before their arrival. The deceased and recovered cattle were handed over to the victim’s family.
In the South-East, troops of Operation UDO KA achieved a significant breakthrough with the arrest of three suspected terrorists linked to the ambush of troops in Imo on May 4. This operation, conducted in Delta and Imo states, was based on intelligence from previously arrested suspects. The troops recovered various weapons from terrorist camps, including rifles that had been taken during the May ambush, as well as additional arms and ammunition uncovered during further exploitation of the terrorist camps.
