Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that his preferred approach to the Iran nuclear issue is through diplomatic means, though he emphasized that he would not permit Tehran to obtain nuclear weapons under any circumstances. Trump made these remarks during his 2026 State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress, highlighting ongoing negotiations with Iran.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Trump revealed that while negotiations are active, Iran has yet to fully commit to not pursuing nuclear arms. He expressed his firm stance against allowing what he termed as the “world’s number one sponsor of terror” to possess nuclear capabilities. Trump also raised concerns about Iran’s missile development, noting that the country has missiles capable of threatening Europe and U.S. bases overseas, and is working on missiles that could potentially reach the United States.
Delegations from both countries are preparing for a third round of indirect nuclear negotiations in Geneva, Switzerland, mediated by Oman. This development comes as U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio briefed senior lawmakers on Iran, amid Trump’s consideration of military strikes.
