Abuja: The Tanimu Turaki-led National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has unanimously agreed to appeal the recent Court of Appeal judgment on the party’s leadership at the Supreme Court. This decision, made during the 103rd NEC meeting in Abuja, aims to safeguard the party’s legal position.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, informed reporters that the party had already initiated the appeal process and submitted applications for an accelerated hearing. The NEC meeting focused on endorsing decisions made by the National Working Committee (NWC) and the Board of Trustees (BoT), which act on behalf of the party’s highest decision-making body.
Ememobong stated that the NEC unanimously supported the decisions made in good faith, highlighting that the party’s efforts to preserve its integrity are ongoing. He reassured supporters that the legal proceedings would not hinder internal reconciliation efforts within the party.
Ememobong also mentioned that the party is open to discontinuing the legal suit if agreeable terms are reached between the conflicting factions. He described the reconciliation process as ongoing, noting a reduction in hostile exchanges between the groups involved.
While acknowledging that complete reconciliation has not yet been achieved, Ememobong emphasized the progress made towards unity. He stressed the importance of presenting a strong opposition platform for the party’s candidates in upcoming elections.
Ememobong refuted claims of a parallel national convention and highlighted the party’s commitment to resolving disputes internally. He encouraged members to join the digital membership drive at iampdp.org to strengthen the party’s base.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the meeting was attended by key party figures, including the BoT, state chairmen, and former NWC members, indicating a unified stance within the party.
