Washington: The U.S. has initiated operations to clear the Strait of Hormuz, an essential global shipping route, President Donald Trump announced on Saturday. This development aims to ensure the safety of vessels navigating through the strait, which is critical for international trade.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, President Trump shared on Truth Social that the operation is being conducted as a favor to multiple nations, including China, Japan, South Korea, France, and Germany. The President emphasized that the only remaining threat to the ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz were sea mines.
Trump further asserted that all 28 of Iran’s mine-laying boats are now “lying at the bottom of the sea.” This statement comes amidst ongoing talks in Islamabad between U.S. and Iranian delegations. These discussions, mediated by Pakistan, aim to resolve the broader regional conflict, following a fragile two-week ceasefire that was brokered earlier this week.
