Abuja: The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) Alumni Forum, Abuja Chapter has called for unity to impact the school and its students.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the forum made the call during the 9th edition of its Quarterly Walkout and Networking event, themed ‘Reawakening Walk 2.0’, held in Abuja. The forum’s President, Shettima Kukawa, encouraged all UNIMAID graduates residing in Abuja to connect with the alumni, unite, and contribute positively to the school and its students.
Kukawa emphasized that the reawakening walk serves as an initiative to motivate members of the association to become more active. He stated, “There is need for all of us to come together, unite and make impact in both the school and students. We are trying to bring our people together. It is only when you achieve that you are able to make the necessary impact on the people, the university and the students.”
He expressed concern that many UNIMAID graduates living in Abuja have not had the opportunity to meet each other and highlighted the forum’s efforts to facilitate connections among members. Kukawa also called on Abuja residents to engage in social interactions and build a strong network to support both the alumni association and the university.
He noted the recent celebration of the university’s 50th anniversary and acknowledged challenges within the alumni association, particularly the lack of active participation by its members. Kukawa stressed the importance of raising awareness about these issues and the benefits of a unified alumni association for both individuals and the university.
The forum’s Secretary, Maimuma Abdullahi, reiterated that the ‘Reawakening’ event is designed to offer UNIMAID graduates a platform for networking and connection, beyond just physical exercise. “This forum is more than just exercise. It is a platform to bring everyone together. You know, we are in Abuja, everybody is doing his thing. We do not get to meet often,” she said.
Former forum president, Hamisu Medugu, highlighted the significance of unity and networking within society, noting that events like the walk can strengthen friendships and foster a supportive community for the future.
