Abuja: The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has characterized the Image Maker Award 2026, bestowed upon him by Vanguard Media Ltd., as a significant affirmation of efforts toward building trust and enhancing the communication ecosystem.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, Idris expressed these sentiments in a statement released in Abuja through his Media Aide, Rabiu Ibrahim. He emphasized that the award reflects his commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s reform initiatives. The award, presented by Vanguard Media Limited, publishers of the Vanguard newspaper, underscores the ongoing commitment to fostering trust and supporting the government’s reform efforts.



Idris received this accolade at a ceremony held in Lagos, noting its significance at a crucial moment for Nigeria, characterized by bold reforms and a drive to reposition the nation for sustainable growth. He highlighted the importance of building trust with the Nigerian populace, stating that effective communication is central to governance, fostering confidence, unity, and hope, and must go beyond mere information dissemination to build trust.



He further stressed the necessity of transparency and regular public and media engagement, noting that open dialogue is essential to bridging the gap between governance and public perception. Idris acknowledged the critical role of timely and accurate information in national security matters, pointing to ongoing collaborations with security agencies and media partners to maintain public calm and strengthen confidence in government actions.



The minister recognized the vital contributions of media, government officials, and the ministry’s staff in advancing Nigeria’s communication framework. He expressed gratitude to Vanguard Media Limited for its dedication to excellence and for honoring national service.



As Nigeria undergoes major policy changes, including the removal of fuel subsidies, foreign exchange reforms, and fiscal restructuring, Idris outlined an approach focused on clarity, consistency, and credibility. He reiterated the commitment to ensuring government decisions are communicated responsibly, emphasizing their long-term benefits for Nigerians.
