Post: Volta and Oti Regional NDC Extend Goodwill to NPP Ahead of Presidential Primary

HO, Ghana — As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prepares to elect a presidential candidate on November 4, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta and Oti regions has sent goodwill messages to their political counterparts.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Regional Executives of the NDC encouraged NPP delegates to uphold the principles of their electoral system and avoid violence throughout the election process. Mr. Siki Abibu, the Volta Regional Organizer for the NDC, expressed confidence that the NPP’s primary would proceed without incidents of violence or electoral malpractice, referencing allegations from the special elections held on August 26. Mr. Gabriel Lemboe, the Oti Regional Secretary for the NDC, advised the NPP to work with police services to maintain order, drawing on the NDC’s own experience in conducting a peaceful primary election.

The NDC’s messages underscored the importance of internal party unity in strengthening multi-party democracy in Ghana. Despite extending well wishes, Mr. Lemboe remarked on the competitive nature of politics by stating that regardless of the outcome, the NPP is expected to become the opposition in the upcoming December 2024 general elections.

The presidential primary of the NPP has attracted four candidates: Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central; Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; Mr. Francis Addai Nimo, former MP for Mampong; and Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the former Minister of Agriculture. The outcome of this primary is anticipated to be a significant indicator of the NPP’s direction and strategy as they prepare for the general election.
