Sierra leone: Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, on February 27, 2026, received 16 Sierra Leonean soldiers released by Guinean authorities. Their return followed intensive diplomatic engagements aimed at resolving a border incident, reinforcing the nation’s dedication to peaceful dialogue and regional stability.
According to Sierra Leone News Agency, the breakthrough occurred after a high-level delegation, authorized by Vice President Jalloh, traveled to Conakry for direct talks with Guinean officials, securing the personnel’s safe return.
Speaking at a dinner hosted for the soldiers at the Vice President’s residence, Foreign Affairs Minister Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba, who led the delegation, detailed the leadership behind the mission. With President Julius Maada Bio abroad, Vice President Jalloh assumed Commander-in-Chief responsibilities, forming and dispatching the team that negotiated the soldiers’ release.
“When the incident occurred, you demonstrated remarkable courage and leadership amid heightened tensions,” Minister Kabba addressed the Vice President. “You provided the inspiration. Following your instructions, we traveled to Conakry to bring home our countrymen and women who, while performing their duties, encountered that unfortunate situation.”
Minister Kabba also praised the coordinated efforts of security sector personnel and diplomatic teams. Their collaborative engagement resulted in the soldiers’ handover earlier that day, concluding days of border tensions between the two West African nations.
