Kuje: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has assured residents of Kuje Area Council of the initiation of more infrastructure projects. This announcement was made during his thank-you visit to the area, following the success of the Feb. 21 FCT area council elections.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike’s assurance came in response to a request from the council’s Chairman-elect, Mr. Danjuma Shekwolo, who urged the minister to consider executing three important road projects in the area. Wike acknowledged the request, stating his intention to consult with the Chairman-elect and traditional leaders to prioritize the projects.
Wike expressed his commitment to Kuje, highlighting past engagements with the residents, where they had appealed for the completion of the Airport Road to Kuje, a project initiated by the previous administration. Additionally, the residents requested the dualization of the Tipper Garage to LEA Secretariat Road. Wike confirmed the completion and inauguration of the garage road contract and announced that work on the Airport Road to Kuje was set to resume, with expectations of its inclusion among the projects to be inaugurated by the President for his third anniversary.
The Minister also provided updates on the progress of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road, a 16 to 17-kilometer stretch, hoping for its inauguration by June. He expressed gratitude to the traditional leaders and residents of Kuje for their vocal support during the council elections, highlighting President Tinubu’s directive to appreciate and acknowledge such support.
He advised Mr. Shekwolo to remain connected with the community, emphasizing the importance of consulting traditional leaders and engaging with women and youth. Wike urged continued support for the Tinubu administration, expressing optimism for future improvements.
Mr. Shekwolo, in his address, expressed gratitude to both Wike and the residents for their trust and promised to collaborate under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to deliver democratic dividends. He acknowledged the significant infrastructural developments that had facilitated movement and urged Wike to consider constructing the Gwargwarda to Kuje Road, Kuje to Rubochi Road, and Kuje to Kabi Road, which he believed would bolster the area’s economy.
