Post: Wike Seeks German Investment in Abuja’s ICT and Agriculture Sectors

Abuja:The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has called for strategic development partnerships with German cities, focusing on agriculture, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), and youth skill acquisition. This appeal was made during a meeting with the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Stefan Rössel, in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike emphasized the longstanding economic, cultural, and political relations between Nigeria and Germany and expressed the FCT Administration’s dedication to transforming Abuja into a world-class city, comparable to Berlin, Munich, and Washington, D.C. He highlighted the importance of creating a secure and conducive environment for diplomatic missions and foreign investors in the capital.

Wike noted the improvements made under the current administration in terms of security and urban infrastructure, aiming to restore Abuja’s status as a leading capital city. He defended the ongoing reforms by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which include decentralization and state policing to address insecurity, and stressed the need for patience as these structural reforms take time to deliver long-term benefits.

Ambassador Rössel praised the 66-year diplomatic relationship between Germany and Nigeria and expressed enthusiasm for strengthening bilateral collaboration. He recognized the visible developments in Abuja and the broader national reform agenda, affirming Germany’s continued support for Nigeria’s economic and security policy initiatives.

The German Embassy, along with European Union member states, is eager to work with the FCT Administration on urban planning, infrastructure development, and city governance, Rössel indicated.
