Abuja: Muhammad Anas, Controller of the Federal Fire Service (FFS) FCT Command, announced that the service is fully prepared with over 3,000 firefighters stationed across the territory to ensure the safety of lives and property during the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations. This assurance was given during his address to Station Commanders at the opening of ‘Yuletide Operation Swift Response to Emergencies’ held on Tuesday at the FCT Command Headquarters.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the FCT currently boasts 24 fire stations with a deployment of over 3,000 functional personnel to maintain safety during the festive season. Anas instructed the commanders to ensure that these safety measures are executed thoroughly by keeping all personnel at their posts during the holiday period.
The controller highlighted that the FFS Controller-General, Samuel Olumode, has mandated that all fire trucks and their equipment remain intact and ready for immediate deployment. He stressed that all necessary preparations, including maintaining chemical form, water levels, vehicle condition, and personnel availability, must be upheld.
Anas urged FCT residents to familiarize themselves with fire service control and emergency numbers to guarantee swift responses during emergencies. He highlighted that even for incidents such as animals falling into wells, residents can rely on the fire service by contacting the emergency numbers: 080-3200-3557 or the toll-free number: 112.
Furthermore, the controller advised residents against leaving household appliances on when traveling, as this could potentially cause fires. He emphasized the importance of disconnecting appliances from sockets to prevent any fire hazards while away from home. Anas expressed gratitude for the dedication of his personnel and encouraged them to continue their diligent efforts.
