Akure: Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State on Wednesday in Akure met with members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. The meeting marked the council’s first gathering since the recent party primaries.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Chairman of GAC, Chief Pius Akinyelure, addressed newsmen, emphasizing the leaders’ commitment to resolving differences and ensuring the stability and future of the party. Akinyelure highlighted that the council had not convened for about a year, underscoring the party’s unity of purpose as its greatest strength. He stated that disagreements from political contests are normal in a democracy and are typically resolved through dialogue, mutual respect, selflessness, and sacrifice.
Akinyelure remarked on the significance of the meeting, describing it as a demonstration of the collective commitment to reconcile and preserve the unity, strength, and progressive ideals that have sustained the APC in Ondo State. He acknowledged the importance of consolidating the impressive voting statistic from the 2023 elections to achieve an overwhelming victory for the APC in the 2027 general elections. He reiterated that the party’s strength lies in its ability to resolve differences and emphasized the importance of unity.
He also commended Aiyedatiwa’s administration and assured the governor of continued support from the council, urging members to avoid division and unnecessary rancor. The meeting reviewed issues affecting the party and expressed satisfaction with the adjustments made to strengthen its unity.
Sen. Ajayi Boroffice also spoke at the meeting, stating that the leaders resolved to support the governor and ensure that all party members recognized him as the APC leader in the state. Boroffice described Aiyedatiwa as the institution representing the APC in Ondo State and emphasized efforts towards Tinubu’s re-election.
APC South-West Vice Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, mentioned that over 30 party leaders at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to Tinubu’s re-election and resolved that all support groups should operate under Aiyedatiwa’s leadership. He urged the national leadership of the party to involve all major stakeholders in decisions concerning Ondo State.
